New Delhi/Tehran: India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who is visiting Tehran, called on Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian.

During the meeting with Doval on Monday President Raisi said Iran and India can enhance their bilateral cooperation which would enable both countries to have a more effective role in the new world order.

Referring to his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Uzbekistan’s Samarkand on the sidelines of the 22nd Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit last September, the Iranian president said that the leaders of both countries are determined to expand relations in different economic and trade areas.

He noted that regional and international organisations such as the SCO and BRICS group of emerging economies, with their remarkable power and resources, can affect the changing world.

President Raisi said that more enhanced cooperation between Iran and India can help in the settlement of regional issues, including in Afghanistan.

NSA Doval said great changes are happening across the world and emerging technologies are increasingly linking the economies of the countries, reported IRNA, the official news agency of Iran.

Doval added that India believes that in order to be able to affect these global changes, it needs to develop increased relations with its neighbours, in particular Iran.

During his meeting with Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian, the latter expressed hope that the two countries further expand their cooperation on key regional and international issues, including fighting against terrorism and drug trafficking.

The Iranian minister also called for boosting economic and trade relations that match the existing potentials of the two countries.

Doval said that the existence of a wide range of potentialities for cooperation between the two sides is of paramount importance with regard to the current developments taking place in the international arena.

He said that transit cooperation is a key pillar in Iran-India relations, and stressed the importance of advancing the Chabahar port project that would lead to enhanced integration between central Asian and Caucasus countries as well as Russia.

NSA Doval earlier on Monday held talks with his Iranian counterpart Ali Shamkhani.
