Mohd Shami's wife Hasin Jahan moves Supreme Court seeking arrest warrant against him

New Delhi/UNI: Hasin Jahan, the estranged wife of India cricketer Mohammed Shami, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging that a criminal case against the fast bowler has been "erroneously stayed" for the past 4 years.

Jahan further went on to level serious allegations against the Indian cricketer, Shami, that he has continued to have extra-marital affairs with prostitutes, even when he is on tours with the senior national cricket team, her petition, filed in the Supreme Court, said.

The Indian pace bowler, Shami, has vehemently denied all the allegations levelled by Jahan against him.

Jahan had moved the Supreme Court by filing the petition against the Calcutta High Court's March 28, 2023, order, in which it had refused to quash the Sessions Court's order.

A Sessions Court in West Bengal had stayed the arrest warrant issued against Shami.

Jahan alleged, in her 20-page petition, that Shami used to demand dowry from her and that he has been continuously involved in illicit extra-marital sexual affairs with prostitutes, especially during his BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) tours, in the hotel rooms provided by the BCCI, even till the present day.

She said that the Calcutta High Court's order is manifestly erroneous in law, which is in blatant violation of her right to a speedy trial.

Shami's wife, Jahan, also raised concerns that there shall not be any special treatment for celebrities under the law.

Jahan had first brought up the allegations of domestic abuse and adultery against Shami in 2018, when she filed a police complaint in Jadavpur.

Shami and his elder brother Hasib Ahmed were questioned by Kolkata Police's women's grievance cell in 2018 and the Alipore Court even issued an arrest warrant against the Indian cricketer. However, the arrest warrant was later stayed. The Indian cricket board's (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit, also gave Shami a clean chit, after Jahan even alleged that Shami was involved in match-fixing.

"Mr. Shami used to demand dowry from her and that he has been continuously involved in illicit extra-marital sexual affairs with prostitutes, especially during his BCCI tours, in the hotel rooms provided by the BCCI, even till the present day. Mrs.

"Hasin Jahan has alleged in the Petition that Mr. Shami used his 2nd mobile phone- for managing all his affairs in relation to prostitutes and the said phone was seized by the Lal Bazaar Police, Kolkata, in connection with the present crime. However, Mr. Shami, as per the allegations in the Petition, still continues to be involved in sexual activities with prostitutes," the petition said.

Earlier in January 2023, Shami was ordered to pay an monthly alimony of Rs 50,000 to Jahan by a Kolkata court.

Jahan was, however, not happy with the alimony amount that Shami is supposed to pay. She thereby later demanded Rs 10 lakh per month as alimony from the Indian pacer.

Jahan filed the legal case in Kolkata Court, seeking a monthly alimony of Rs 10 lakh, which included Rs 7 lakh for personal expenses and Rs 3 lakh for the maintenance of their daughter.
