'The Kerala Story contains hate speech, manipulated facts': Bengal govt to Supreme Court on film ban

New Delhi/IBNS: The West Bengal government, in an affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, on Tuesday defended the ban on The Kerala Story, and said that the 'movie contains hate speech and has manipulated facts'.

"Intelligence reports predicted law and order problems, communal rows, and clashes amongst extremist groups, the movie has hate speech, based on manipulated facts that can lead to violence. The financial loss is not a violation of fundamental rights," the West Bengal government, said in its affidavit.

While justifying its stand on banning the film in the state, the West Bengal government told the Supreme Court that the film may hurt communal sentiments and cause disharmony between the communities which can lead to law and order issues in the State.

'The Kerala Story’, starring Adah Sharma, was released in cinemas on May 5.

The apex court is expected to hear the matter on Wednesday.

Filing its affidavit, the Mamata Banerjee government said that the film can cause communal disharmony and a law and order situation, as has been gauged from various Intelligence inputs.

Defending its decision to ban the movie, the West Bengal government said the screening of the movie is likely to cause clashes among extremist groups.

“The said movie may cause disharmony between the communities which will eventually lead to a law and order situation, as has been gauged from various Intelligence inputs," the government said.
