Hiroshima: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky of India’s help, and his own at the personal level, to resolve the prevailing conflict.

Modi met Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan's Hiroshima.

“I assure you that India, and I personally, would definitely do whatever is in our capacity to resolve this situation," Prime Minister Modi can be heard saying in a video clip of the meeting shared by news agency ANI.

During the meeting, Modi described the Ukraine war as an 'issue of humanity'.

He said India will do whatever is possible to find a solution to the conflict.

"Prime Minister noted that the conflict in Ukraine has had a significant impact on the whole world. He, however, stressed that for him, this is not a political or economic issue but an issue of humanity, of human values," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday.

The Ukrainian president is participating in the summit on Japan’s invitation, the current chair of the powerful group of seven countries.

Last month, Ukraine's First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzhaparova made a significant visit to India, marking the first high-level trip from Ukraine since the conflict in the eastern European country started.

During her visit, Dzhaparova presented a letter from President Zelensky to Prime Minister Modi, which was received by Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently emphasized that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine can only be resolved through diplomatic means and dialogue. He has reiterated India's readiness to contribute to any peace initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict.
