Four die, 23 injured in multiple vehicles crash on Pune-Satara highway

Satara: In a freak accident, four passengers were killed on the spot and 23 others were injured when four vehicles, including a container, two private buses and a car, crashed into each other on Pune-Satara highway at Varve village in the district on Sunday.

Following the collision this afternoon, a private bus overturned on the road, in which its four passengers were killed on the spot and 23 others were injured.

They were shifted to a nearby hospital, where four of them are stated to be in serious condition, police said and informed that all the vehicles involved in accident were on way to Satara from Pune.

All the vehicles were damaged severely.

After the incident, police and local people rushed to spot and started rescue operation.

Elaborating further, police said at first a container vigorously rammed into a bus from behind, becasue of which the bus overturned. At that time, a speeding car crashed into container from behind, however, all occupants in car were safe.
Due to accident, there was a traffic jam on both sides of the highway for quite some time, even as police tried to restore the traffic.

Police are trying to ascertain identity of the deceased and injured persons.
Further investigation is under way, sources added.
