Bengaluru: In a chilling incident in the city, a woman walked into a police station on Monday with her mother's dead body stuffed into a suitcase and the Mico Layout police have filed a murder case.

"The incident took place on June 12, between 11 am to 11.30 am at NSR Apartment in Bilekahalli under Mico Layout police station limits. The accused, her husband, mother and son, along with mother-in-law are living in the apartment for the last five years. We suspect domestic reasons for the crime," DCP North CK Baba told reporters here.

The accused allegedly strangulated her 71-year-old mother using a dupatta, and after that the body was stuffed into the suitcase and brought to the police station, he said.

"When we checked the suitcase, we found the dead body along with the photo of the husband of the deceased woman. The sub-inspector enquired into the case and booked a suo motu murder case," Baba said.

Further investigation is underway and the police are trying to find out the reason behind the murder, he said.

The accused has studied physiotherapy, and her husband works in a company situated at Hebbagodi and goes for duty around 6.30 am, Baba said. She is the only daughter, and was taking care of the deceased for the last five years, Baba said.

"We suspect domestic issues for this murder. The 71-year woman also had health problems like BP. At this point of time, we cannot make any categorical conclusions. The investigation is underway," he said.

When this crime happened, the mother-in-law and son of the accused were in other rooms, Baba said.
