Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan on Thursday apologised to the tribal man, who was urinated on by another man, and showed him a special gesture of respect.

Dasmat Ravat, a 36-year-old tribal from Karaundi, was allegedly urinated on by a man identified as Pravesh Shukla. The incident sparked a massive outrage after the video of the act went viral on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the Chief Minister tweeted a video where he is seen washing the feet of Dasmat Ravat.

“I am sharing this video with you so that everyone should understand that Shivraj Singh Chouhan is in Madhya Pradesh, so the public is God. Atrocities with anyone will not be tolerated. The respect of every citizen of the state is my respect,” he wrote in the tweet.

According to reports, after seeing the video on Tuesday, Chief Minister took cognizance of the matter and directed strict action against the accused.

Following the Chief Minister’s order, a case was filed against the accused at Bahari police station. The charges pressed against him include sections 294 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 3(1) (r)(s) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the National Security Act (NSA).

On Wednesday, Chouhan, in a tweet said, that his heart was filled with pain after seeing the video.

“Ever since I saw the video of Sidhi's incident, my heart is deeply disturbed and filled with pain. Since then I wanted to meet Dashmat ji and share his sorrow and also wanted to assure him that he would get justice. I will meet him and his family tomorrow at his residence in Bhopal and express my condolences to the family,” read a translation of the tweet in Hindi.

In another tweet, he wrote, “I am sad; Dashmat ji, this is an attempt to share your pain, I also apologize to you, for me public is God!

When Chouhan met Dasmat Ravat on Thursday, he asked many questions, including how he made his living and if he and his family were receiving the benefits of the government schemes.

Referring to Sudama, the poor childhood friend of Lord Krishna, the Chief Minister said: "Dasmat, now you are my friend."

According to NDTV, Ravat said the CM called up his family and spoke to them family.

“I felt good. I am now returning after meeting him," he was quoted as saying by NDTV.

The viral video shows Shukla, purportedly associated with the ruling BJP in the state, smoking a cigarette while urinating on Dasmat, who was sitting on the ground.

The disturbing video sparked a political controversy in the state, especially as elections are scheduled later this year.

The Congress party has accused the BJP of failing to protect the tribal community.

Dasmat Ravat had initially claimed that the video was fake, but it is alleged that the statement was made under pressure or coercion.
