UP: 12 killed as tanker overturns on tempo

Pratapgarh (UP)/IBNS/UNI: Twelve people were killed, and two others were injured when a tanker overturned on a tempo in the Leelapur area of Pratapgarh district here in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, a senior officer said.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep condolences over the loss of lives in the road accident in Pratapgarh and has expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

District Magistrate Prakash Chandra Shrivastava said that the incident took place in Mohanganj where a gas tanker overturned on the tempo. "Nine persons were killed on the spot in the incident and five others were injured, who after first aid, were referred to medical college in Prayagraj," he said.

Police sources said that those who have been identified include Harikesh Shrivastava (63), Sheetla, Neeraj Pandey (21), his sister Neelam Pandey, Satish (26), Mohammad Raees (45) and his wife Gulshan Begum (40). "Three injured, including Gurmeet, Suresh and Urmila, who were referred to Prayagraj also succumbed to their injuries," they said.

Earlier the DM said that A technical team was called on the spot to examine the tanker.

CM Adityanath has directed the district administration to provide proper treatment to the people injured in the accident.

He directed to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of deceased and accident and Rs 50,000 each to the seriously injured.
