G20 G20 Summit: Delhi ready to host world leaders for mega geopolitical event
New Delhi/IBNS: The national capital Delhi is all set to host the world leaders, who will be here to attend the G20 Summit on September 9 and 10.
To ensure smooth conduction of the global event with geopolitical implications, the Delhi Police has taken a slew of measures which will be in place from September 7 to September 10.
The restrictions have been imposed on the movement of commercial vehicles and other transport means.
From 5 pm on September 9 to 11:50 pm on September 10, no auto rickshaw or taxi will be allowed to operate in New Delhi.
Only vehicles of Armed Forces, Police, Disaster Management teams, ambulances and other emergency services will be allowed to operate without any restrictions.
The Delhi Airport will have a special corridor for the delegations to ensure a smooth clearance of immigration and customs.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will individually welcome all global leaders at the newly-inaugurated Bharat Mandapam in Delhi's Pragati Maidan.
Modi will host a lunch for all global leaders on Saturday followed by a dinner which will be hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.
Xi Jinping, Putin to skip G20
The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday confirmed the country's Premier Li Qiang and not President Xi Jinping will attend the G20 Summit in India this week, amid the bilateral tension between the two Asian giants.
Quoting foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, the statement read: "At the invitation of the government of the Republic of India, Premier of the State Council Li Qiang will attend the 18th G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, India on September 9 and 10."
Xi Jinping is now the second top world leader after Russian President Vladimir Putin who will not attend the G20 Meet in the Indian capital city.
China-India relations stable on the whole, says Beijing
China, a nation that has been engaged in a conflict with India in recent times, on Tuesday said it supports New Delhi in hosting the G20 Summit in New Delhi and is ready to work with all parties in making the event successful.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry made the comment just days after it announced that President Xi Jinping would not attend the G20 Summit.
Instead of him, the country's Premier Li Qiang will attend the event.
"The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation. China always attaches high importance to and actively participates in relevant activities.
"We support India in hosting this year’s summit and stand ready to work with all parties to make the G20 summit a success," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said.
She said the China-India relationship has been stable on the whole and our two sides have maintained dialogue and communication at various levels.
"The continued improvement and growth of China-India relations serves the common interests of the two countries and two peoples. We stand ready to work with India to further improve and advance bilateral relations," she said.
