New Delhi/UNI: The Pokémon Company (TPC), in collaboration with Niantic, announced the launch of its globally renowned mobile gaming application, Pokémon GO, in Hindi.

The exciting development coincides with India's celebration of Hindi Divas on Thursday, signifying a significant step in catering to the diverse linguistic preferences of the Indian gaming community.

Hindi is the sixth language in Asia and the 15th globally in which the game has been localized.

In a bid to enhance the user experience, the game has been localized and numerous Pokémon characters have been renamed in Hindi.

Pokémon, an iconic video game and entertainment franchise, has been a unifying force for fans of all ages worldwide since its inception in 1996.

Initially starting with 151 creatures, the franchise has grown to encompass over 1,000 creatures, captivating the imaginations of children and adults alike.

Players can now visit the official Pokédex page to access the new Hindi names, and in the near future, they will be able to explore information and details related to all Pokémon in Hindi.

Recognizing the ever-growing fan base in India, TPC has demonstrated its commitment to the Indian market by renaming over 800 Pokémon in Hindi,  fostering a deeper connection with the beloved franchise.

Omar Tellez, VP for Emerging Markets, Niantic said, "Niantic remains devoted to fostering a global community that transcends boundaries, and the addition of Hindi language support is a testament to the company's unwavering commitment towards India and its rapidly increasing gaming audience."

Takato Utsunomiya, Chief Operating Officer, The Pokémon Company, said, "Since the beginning,Pokémon's appeal has transcended generations and cultures making it a worldwide phenomenon bringing people together through the joy of play and discovery."

"India is one of our key markets. We believe the localization into Hindi marks the starting point of a long journey to come. We aim to firmly establish ourselves in India with our long-term vision and hope to further enrich the Pokémon world hand-in-hand with the Pokémon fan community," Utsunomiya added.

The Pokémon Company, originally established to manage the Pokémon brand, has evolved over the years to encompass video games, trading card games, animated TV series, movies, merchandise, tie-up promotions, events, and Pokémon Centers, directly managed Pokémon shops.

With a presence in trading card games, TV anime, film, apps, merchandise, and more, Pokémon has become a beloved and globally recognized name.
