PM Modi urges citizens to support local artisans as he launches 'PM Vishwakarma' scheme
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday emphasised the need to promote local goods at the international level and tweaked his 'vocal for local' slogan to include a 'global' aspect.
Speaking at the inauguration of YashoBhoomi, a world-class convention centre, where he also launched the ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme to promote Indian artisans, Modi encouraged people to support local products during the upcoming festive seasons, emphasizing the importance of first advocating for local products and then expanding their reach to global markets.
The Prime Minister mentioned occasions like Ganesh Chaturthi, Dhanteras, Deepavali, and others as opportunities for citizens to opt for locally-made goods.
"It is the collective duty of the entire nation to uphold the 'vocal for local' initiative," he emphasized, urging citizens to purchase products, regardless of their size, bearing the hallmark of 'Vishwakarma' artisans.
In this context, 'Vishwakarma' refers to the traditional artisans and skilled craftsmen, associated with the Hindu god of machines and tools. The Prime Minister introduced a new scheme today, named the Vishwakarma Yojana, aimed at benefiting these craftsmen.
PM Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the India International Convention and Expo Centre (IICC), named YashoBhoomi, underscoring its significant role in promoting local products on the global platform.
He also encouraged artisans and craftsmen to procure 'Made In India' toolkits from shops registered under the GST.
