Shillong/UNI: Altogether 26 students from Meghalaya have been evacuated from flood-hit Sikkim and are en route to Shillong by bus via Assam, an official said on Saturday morning.
“A bus with 26 students from Meghalaya left Majitar in Sikkim via Siliguri last evening, has crossed Kokrajhar and is on its way to Shillong. Glad to see our students safe,” Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on X.
The Meghalaya government started the evacuation process after students from studying in Sikkim on Thursday had contacted Chief Minister Sangma for his support to return back home due to the natural disaster in that Himalayan state.
On Friday, the Meghalaya government activated a helpline: 1800 345 3644 to help students and citizens stranded in Sikkim.
