Two Army officers, 2 soldiers killed in gunfight with terrorists in Kashmir's Rajouri
Srinagar/IBNS: Two army officers and two soldiers were killed in action after a fierce encounter broke out in the Kalakot forests of Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Wednesday, media reports said.
The encounter started after the army's special forces and police launched a joint operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the forest area.
"A gunfight broke out between a group of terrorists believed to be three to four and a joint team of security forces on Wednesday in Rajouri district," sources told UNI.
Acting on specific inputs, cordon and a search operation was launched few days back in Bajumaal area of Kalakote.
The Pir Panjal forest in Jammu and Kashmir has proved to be a challenge for the security forces in the last few years following a series of encounters. The terrorists are using the dense forests to hide their positions, taking advantage of the topography comprising treacherous mountains, dense jungles, and the alpine forests.
The terrorists hiding this morning fired at the search party which was retaliated and an encounter followed.
Last week, a terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Rajouri district.
The encounter broke out in the morning during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by a joint team of army, police, and CRPF in the Guller-Behrote area of Budhal tehsil.
