Telangana CM promises Rs 5 lakh accident insurance for gig workers
Hyderabad/UNI: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has pledged to introduce a Rs 5 lakh accident insurance policy for cab drivers, food delivery personnel, and auto drivers, along with medical care coverage of up to Rs 10 lakh under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme.
During a meeting at Nampally Exhibition Grounds on Saturday evening, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy addressed the issues faced by cab drivers, food delivery personnel, and auto drivers.
He instructed officials to extend Rs 2 lakh financial assistance to the family of a Swiggy delivery person who tragically lost his life after being chased by a dog and falling from a building.
Additionally, Chief Minister Reddy assured the creation of an app, developed by T-Hub and modelled after Ola, to streamline operations for these workers.
He emphasised that the state government would take responsibility for providing social security and would consider the concerns raised by workers in their respective professions.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted the government's commitment to studying and implementing effective policies, citing inspiration from the existing policy implemented by the Congress government in Rajasthan.
He emphasised the need for organisations to prioritise the welfare of workers alongside profits, warning of stringent action against those failing to adhere to fair employment practices.
Chief Minister Reddy expressed disappointment in the lack of assistance from the previous government to the family of the Swiggy delivery person who lost his life. He instructed officials to collect family details and provide Rs 2 lakh assistance from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF).
Cab drivers, food delivery personnel, and auto drivers were advised by the Chief Minister to submit their applications digitally or manually during Grama Sabhas organised from December 28 to January 6, 2024.
Revanth Reddy assured that all applications received through Prajavani would be promptly addressed.
The meeting was attended by IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, AICC Secretaries Rohit Chaudhary, Mansoor Ali Khan, Madhu Yashki, TPCC Working President Mahesh Kumar Goud, and other prominent leaders.
