Amaravati/IBNS: Andhra Pradesh Congress president G Rudra Raju has resigned, sparking speculation that new entrant YS Sharmila Reddy may assume the top post, media reports said.

As per reports, Sharmila may be appointed as the party's state chief to be pitted against her older brother and Chief Minister, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Sharmila, who has recently joined the Congress, has reportedly expressed her willingness to work at any position for the party.

She has recently merged her YSR Telangana Party with the Congress in presence of Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.

The new Congress state unit chief will be announced in a few days' time.

Andhra Pradesh will go to polls along with the Lok Sabha elections in summer this year.
