Ahead of the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the Delhi government announced on Sunday that all government schools, operating in the general and morning shifts, will remain closed on January 22.

Schools in the evening shift will start at 02:30 p.m. and conclude as per their usual timings, but not later than 05:30 p.m.

“All government and government-aided schools in Delhi running in general and morning shifts are ordered to remain closed on January 22," said the Directorate of Education of the Delhi Government in a notice.

Citing the earlier order issued by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena declaring a half-day holiday for Delhi Govt. establishments on January 22 to enable the employees to participate in the celebrations of Ram Lalla Pran Pratishtha being held at Ayodhya, the directorate said, “All Govt. and Govt.-aided schools running in the evening shift shall start at 02:30 p.m. on January 22 and will be off as per their usual timings but not later than 05:30 p.m.”

This arrangement is only for January 22, Monday. Thereafter, the notice issued on January 14 shall prevail, it added.

The directorate, on January 14, issued an order regarding the reopening of Delhi government schools, in which it advised the schools to commence classes at 9 a.m. and avoid conducting classes beyond 5 p.m. due to prevailing foggy conditions.
