Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar hospitalised after sustaining injury during a protest march

BJP's West Bengal unit president Sukanta Majumdar was on Wednesday admitted to a hospital after sustaining injury following a fall from a car bonnet while addressing a protest march at Taki ( North 24 Parganas) on Sandeshkhali issue, official sources said.

Initially, he was admitted to a hospital at Basirhat from where he was being transferred to Apollo Hospitals in the city, party sources added.

Yesterday after leading an agitation near the SP office at Basirhat,  he stayed back in a hotel last night and began fresh agitation demanding arrest of TMC leader Sahjahan Sheikh and his close aide Shibu Hazra and release of the BJP karyakartas, who were arrested on Tuesday.

After performing Saraswati Puja at Taki, Majumdar proceeded towards Sandeshkhali but the state police prevented the BJP leadership
from proceeding.

Majumdar then jumped up on the bonnet of police van and while addressing the people and reporters he slipped and fell unconscious.

He was immediately rushed to the Basirhat hospital and then he was taken to the Apollo Hospitals in the city.

Suvendu Adhikari said it was " shocking and unfortunate," as party president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar has been injured during the lathicharge by police,
who are applying brute force to stop BJP Karyakartas from reaching Sandeshkhali."

He said Majumdar is also a Member of the Parliament, representing Balurghat.

" Mamata Police should hang their heads in shame for manhandling him. I condemn this outrageous misuse of power. I would like to assure everyone that the fight would go on, till the time the last BJP Karyakarta is breathing," the Nandigram MLA said.
