New Delhi: A female passenger travelling on an IndiGo flight from Bengaluru to Chennai for a business trip has alleged to have found a screw in the sandwich served to her during the journey, media reports said.
The incident came to light when the passenger, identified as Jyoti Rautela, shared her ordeal on social media and approached the airline's customer support.
As per Rautela's account, on February 1, while aboard flight 6E-904, she was given a sandwich along with some juice.
While consuming the spinach-corn sandwich, she felt an unusual sensation in her teeth and heard a distinct clicking noise. Upon inspection, she was surprised to find a bolt embedded in the sandwich filling. Rautela was accompanied by two colleagues who corroborated her statement.
"While traveling inIndigo recently on 01/02/24 from BNG to Chennai i got a screw in my samdwich, when I urged for an applogy from the airlines end they came back with a response that wince inconsumed it post flight it couldnt be found legible!!!! #indigo how should i approach this so Indigo can atleast respond," she wrote on Reddit.
IndiGo responded to the incident by issuing an official statement expressing regret for any inconvenience experienced by the passenger. However, the airline noted that the problem was not reported during the flight.
Rautela clarified that she had the sandwich while awaiting her cab.
“I had reached Bengaluru airport well in time and eaten at the waiting lounge. When I was served the pre-booked meal on the flight, I decided to only drink the juice and keep the sandwich for later as I wasn’t hungry. My colleagues ate their meals when they were served,” Rautela told the Times of India.
It wasn't until Rautela and her team arrived at their pre-booked hotel in Chennai that she decided to eat the sandwich while waiting for a taxi. Much to her surprise, she found a bolt inside the sandwich.
Rautela mentioned that on February 2, she received a call from the airline inquiring about the appearance of the flight attendant who had served her the sandwich.
However, it took two weeks for the airline's social media team to respond to her, informing her that her claim was invalid because she hadn't consumed the sandwich on the plane.
Rautela expressed her disappointment and stated, "This is irresponsible on the part of the team."
She also asserted that the incident had a profound impact on her and her family, as the realisation of almost swallowing a bolt was deeply disconcerting.
