New Delhi/IBNS: Eminent Indian jurist and senior Supreme Court advocate Fali Nariman died on Wednesday at the age of 95.

Fali Nariman died at his Delhi home on Wednesday morning.

An internationally recognised jurist, Nariman was awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1991 and Padma Vibhushan in 2007.

He was honoured with the 19th Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration 2018.

Being a nominated member in Rajya Sabha, Nariman served the upper house of Parliament from 1999 to 2005.

Nariman, who has remained the President of the Bar Association from 1991 to 2010, has argued in several high profile cases.

He argued in favour of Union Carbide in the infamous Bhopal Gas Tragedy case but later said it was a mistake on his part.

In 1975, Nariman resigned as the Additional Solicitor General of India protesting against then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's declaration of Emergency.

Mourning his demise, Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted on X, "Shri Fali Nariman Ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals. He devoted his life to making justice accessible to common citizens.

"I am pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace."

Senior advocate and Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi posted on X, "End of an era—#falinariman passes away, a living legend who wl forever be in hearts &minds of those in law &public life.

"Above all his diverse achievements, he stuck to his principles unwaveringly &called a spade a spade, a quality shared by his brilliant son #Rohinton."
