Belarus Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik recently thanked India after it supported the country's application for full-fledged membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Aleinik was recently on a three-day visit to India from March 11 to March 13.

During his visit, he also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

Speaking on his meeting with Jaishankar, Aleinik was quoted as saying by ANI, “We are sharing views towards creating a more just, fair, multipolar world order, and we are sharing the same views on the principles of international relations, so the core principles are equality of states and, the balance of interests of each and every country.”

“We also touched upon our cooperation in SCO, as well as BRICS, and we expressed our appreciation for Indian support extended to our application for full-fledged membership in SCO,” he added.

Meanwhile, S Jaishankar also shared his feelings after meeting Sergei Aleinik and posted on X: "A good meeting with Foreign Minister and Special Envoy for relations with India, Sergei Aleinik of Belarus. Took stock of our bilateral political, trade and economic ties. Exchanged views on development partnership, defence, S&T and education."

"Also discussed the regional situation and cooperation in NAM, SCO and UN," he said.
