Police arrest two drug peddlers from Assam's Cachar

Police arrested two drug peddlers along with drugs in Assam's Cachar district on Thursday night, officials said.

Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police of Cachar district said that, on the strength of secret information a special operation against the transportation of narcotic substances was conducted at Kachudaram Bazar Tiniali in Cachar district.

"During the operation, the police team arrested one person named Babul Ali (40 years old) and his wife Husnara Begum (34 years old). During the search, the police team recovered 5 numbers of soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 61.79 grams. Thereafter, observing all formalities the NDPS items were seized. Further legal action has been initiated," Numal Mahatta said.

In a separate operation, Cachar district police recovered 15 kg of cannabis (ganja) and arrested a lady.

Acting on a tip-off, a special operation against the transportation of illegal narcotic substances was launched and one woman namely Ngaibonj Kuki of Jiribam, Manipur was arrested and 15 kg of ganja seized from her possession at Phulertal Ghaat, Lakhipur while carrying the NDPS substances on a boat.

Further lawful action has been initiated.
