Djibouti, Apr 8 (IBNS): Amid evacuation of Indians from strife-torn Yemen, Minister of State for External Affairs General (retired) VK Singh said that this exercise "is less exciting than going to the Pakistani embassy."

This comment sparked a row and invited severe criticisms for Singh.

General Singh is camping in Djibouti to oversee the evacuation process and made the comments earlier on Tuesday during the media briefing about the rescue operation of fellow citizens.

Earlier speaking on the issue of attending the Pakistan Day event in the country's High Commission in New Delhi , he had said: "It was a protocol which every Minister of State of External Affairs have followed."

"There was nothing new in the event," he had said.

Singh had said he remained a loyal member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

"I am loyal member of the party...There should be no doubt on how I stand on government policies," he had said.

Singh had said: "I am shocked at way certain sections of media had attacked me, my Prime Minister and my government."

Later he had said his 'disgust' and 'duty' tweets have been 'misinterpreted' and attending the Pakistan Day celebrations last night was a 'protocol'.

"My tweets on duty and disgust came under scrutiny and was misinterpreted," Singh had said while addressing a press conference here.
