NCW urges Election Commission to take action on Supriya Shrinate's remarks against Kangana Ranaut

New Delhi/IBNS: The National Commission for Women Tuesday asked the Election Commission to take strict action against Congress leaders Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir for their "derogatory comments" against actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut in a social media post.

NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma, in a letter to the Election Commission, condemned the offensive remarks and demanded a detailed report on the actions taken within three days.

"Such remarks not only violate the dignity of an individual but also perpetuate a culture of misogyny and disrespect towards women," the letter read.

“The NCW is deeply concerned by the recent incident involving Supriya Shrinate and H S Ahir, State Joint Co-Ordinator, Kisan Congress, who made lewd and highly derogatory remarks on social media directed at Kangana Ranaut,“ the letter further read.

The Commission further urged individuals to exercise responsibility and respect towards others, particularly towards women, to foster a safe and respectful online environment.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate's Instagram post on Kangana Ranaut has sparked a massive row just weeks ahead of the beginning of the Lok Sabha elections.

Shrinate posted a picture of Kangana with a caption which triggered a massive row.

Hitting back at the Congress spokesperson, Kangana, who has secured a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, posted a screenshot of the post on her X handle.

In the X post, Kangana called out Shrinate and highlighted how she portrayed all kinds of women on screen in a career spanning 20 years.

She wrote, "Dear Supriya ji In the last 20 years of my career as an artist I have played all kinds of women. From a naive girl in Queen to a seductive spy in Dhaakad, from a goddess in Manikarnika to a demon in Chandramukhi, from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii."

In another post, Kangana wrote, "If a young man gets ticket his ideology is attacked if a young woman gets ticket her sexuality is attacked. Strange !!

"Also congress people are sexualising a small town’s name. Mandi is being used in sexual context every where, just because it has a young woman candidate, shame on congress people for displaying sexist tendencies."

Facing flak, Shrinate posted a video message claiming someone had posted from her Instagram profile without her knowledge.

She wrote on X, "Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. One of these people had posted a very disgusting and objectionable post today. As soon as I came to know about this, I removed that post. Anyone who knows me knows very well that I don't make personal remarks about any woman.

"It has come to my knowledge that this post was earlier running on a parody account (@Supriyaparody). Someone picked up this post from here and posted it on my account. I am trying to identify the person who did this. Also, the parody account created by misusing my name has also been reported in X."
