Man attempts suicide after killing step-daughter, injuring step-son in Uttar Pradesh

A man attempted to commit suicide after killing his minor step-daughter and injuring step-son on Kotwali Nagar area of Bahraich district here in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, police sources said here.

Police sources said that Pinky, a resident of Wazirganj locality, works as a sanitation worker.

"Pinky's first husband died around eight years back after which she married Santosh, a resident of Meerganj. Before marrying Santosh, Pinky had three children," they said.

On Sunday morning after Pinky left for the job, Santosh attacked his step-daughter Riya alias Tani (15) and step-son Puran (12) with a knife injuring them seriously.

"After attacking his step-children, Santosh attempted to slit his throat with the same knife," they said.

Police sources said that with the help of the neighbours, the trio was admitted to the district hospital.

"Riya succumbed to injuries while being treated at the district hospital. Santosh and Puran are being treated at the district hospital," they said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vrinda Shukla along with the senior police officers reached the spot and inquired about the incident.
