Arvind Kejriwal allowed to meet wife Sunita, have home food during his time in Tihar Jail

New Delhi/IBNS: Arvind Kejriwal has been allowed to have home-cooked meals, bottled drinking water, and a supply of toffees in case of a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, a Delhi court said Monday as the Chief Minister was sent a 14-day custody in the city's Tihar Jail following his arrest last month in the alleged liquor policy scam.

He will also be allowed to meet his wife Sunita during his time in jail and have access to bed linen from home, including pillows and a quilt.

Kejriwal will be provided with medical equipment to monitor his health given he is a diabetic patient and has a weak immune system.

The Aam Aadmi Party supremo will be in Tihar's Jail No. 2, with his former deputy Manish Sisodia, and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi's K Kavitha among the opposition leaders behind bars in the Delhi liquor policy case.

Kejriwal was taken to jail this afternoon after the Enforcement Directorate's extended custody finished.

The ED has named the Delhi Chief Minister as the "kingpin" in the alleged scam and told the court the AAP leader had given "evasive replies" and concealed information relevant to the investigation.

The probe agency, which had arrested Kejriwal on March 21, had asked for a 15-day judicial custody citing his "non-cooperative behaviour".

Kejriwal arrested ahead of Indian general polls

Kejriwal has become the first serving Chief Minister to be arrested and is the third senior leader from the party to be arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy scam.

The arrest comes hours after a team from the ED questioned him at his residence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The arrest was made just weeks before India voted in the first phase of the Lok Sabha (Lower House of the Indian Parliament) polls on April 19.

Several opposition parties, who are parts of the anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bloc, rallied behind Kejriwal in a mega rally held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday.

Speaking at the rally, Kejriwal's wife Sunita Kejriwal termed the Chief Minister as "a lion" and said, "The BJP has locked up Kejriwal. Bhagat Singh went to jail fighting the Britishers, Kejriwal went to jail fighting dictatorship."
