Who was Dr. BR Ambedkar?
Dr. BR Ambedkar, reverently known as Babasaheb, was born on April 14, 1891, in Mhow, which is now part of Madhya Pradesh.
He was the 14th and youngest child of Ramji Maloji Sakpal. Coming from a Dalit background and a humble family, Babasaheb experienced firsthand the injustices and prejudices faced by his community.
Despite the challenges, he pursued education and obtained degrees in political science and economics.
His career began with the Baroda State Government, and at the age of 22, he was granted a scholarship to study at Columbia University, where he became the first Indian to pursue a doctorate in Economics abroad.
Throughout his life, Bhimrao Ambedkar advocated for the rights of Dalits. He played a pivotal role in the signing of the Poona Pact in 1932, which allowed for Dalit representation in legislatures.
