The Supreme Court has agreed to hear petitions on the forest fires in Uttarakhand on May 8.

The petition reportedly said 90 percent of the fire was 'man-made'.

A Bench headed by Justice B.R. Gavai instructed the petitioners, including senior advocate Rajiv Dutta, to inform the amicus curiae, advocate K. Parameshwar, reported The Hindu.

The Uttarakhand government, represented by its Deputy Advocate General, said he would attend the hearing in person.

The government also sought permission to file a status report by the next hearing.

Dutta was quoted as saying by The Hindu that the situation was “shocking”.

“There is carbon flying all over the place,” he submitted.

Raging fires are creating havoc in several forest ranges of Uttarakhand.

Four deaths have been reported so far.

The latest victim of the fire is reportedly a 28-year-old woman.
