French envoy to India Thierry Mathou visits Meghalaya, praises 'beautiful' Mawlynnong

French envoy to India Thierry Mathou is currently visiting Meghalaya when he met Governor  Phagu Chauhan and wished to foster his nation's cooperation with the state.

"Paid a courtesy call on the Hon'ble Governor of #Meghalaya, H.E. Shri Phagu Chauhan. I conveyed France’s wish to foster cooperation with the state," he posted on X.

During his visit to Meghalaya, Thierry Mathou  reached  Asia's cleanest village Mawlynnong and described it as the  inspiring model of co-existence of humans and Nature.

" In #Meghalaya, I visited beautiful Mawlynnong, Asia's cleanest village. It’s an inspiring model of coexistence of humans and Nature that reflects the commitment of locals to sustainable living," the envoy said.

Meanwhile, the 7th edition of India- France Joint Military Exercise Shakti commenced today, at Umroi, in a fully developed and modern Foreign Training Node in Meghalaya.

The Exercise is scheduled to be conducted from 13th to 26th May 2024.

The Opening Ceremony of the joint exercise was attended by H.E. Thierry Mathou, Ambassador of France to India and Major General Prasanna Sudhakar Joshi, General Officer Commanding 51 Sub Area.

Exercise Shakti is a biennial training event conducted alternatively in India and France. Last edition was conducted in France in November 2021.
