Pune/IBNS: The registration of the Porsche car that was involved in the accident which killed two people in Pune was due over the non-payment of Rs. 1,758 as fees by the owner, media reports said.

Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar told news agency PTI that the car was imported from Bengaluru and transported to Maharashtra through a temporary registration.

"It was found that a certain registration fee was not paid and the owner was asked to pay the amount for completion of the procedure. However, the vehicle was not brought to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) for the registration process after that," the minister said as quoted by NDTV.

A man and a woman, riding a motorbike, were killed when the car, driven by 17-year-old Vedant Agarwal, hit their vehicle in Pune's Kalyani Nagar in the wee hours of Sunday.

The accident happened at 3:15 am when Anish Awadiya and Ashwini Costa were returning home with friends on motorcycles after partying at a club, according to the police, reported NDTV.

The two riders were flung into the air under the impact of the crash, causing them to land on another car. They died instantly. After hitting them, the car crashed into the pavement and came to a halt, said the report.

According to media reports, the minor accused is the son of a renowned builder in Pune.

Videos on social media showed a group of people thrashing the minor as he tried to come out of his mangled car.

The 17-year-old, whose speeding Porsche SUV knocked a two-wheeler down causing two deaths, was granted bail after he wrote a 300-word essay.

Vedant, the son of an influential builder named Vishal Agarwal, was asked to write a 300-word essay on the topic, titled Effect on road accidents and their solution.

As per police, the bail was granted as the court couldn't find the crime committed by the juvenile as "serious".

Vedant was also asked to learn traffic rules and submit a report by 15 days, The New India Express reported.

Vedant's father Vishal Agrawal was arrested from Aurangabad city of Maharashtra after a case was registered against him on Monday. He was reportedly on the run.
