Mumbai: A 26-year-old woman was allegedly raped in Mumbai under the false promise of securing work on the popular talk show "The Kapil Sharma Show," media reported.

The accused, Anand Singh, was arrested by Mumbai Police following the woman's complaint, reported India Today.

Police stated that the woman and Anand met online a few days ago. Anand misled her by claiming he had connections with top figures of the TV industry and could help her get a job on "The Kapil Sharma Show."

The woman believed Anand's claims, and he informed her that she would need to audition for a role on the show.

He also promised that if the audition was successful, he would introduce her to the casting director.

The woman went to Anand's house in the Nalasopara area of Palghar district for the audition.

Under the garb of conducting the audition, Anand allegedly raped her. When she resisted, he physically assaulted her and threatened her with severe consequences if she reported the incident, according to the police.

Following the incident, the woman reported the assault to the police, and an FIR was registered under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, according to the India Today report.

After the case was filed, the police arrested Anand and presented him in a local court, where he was remanded to police custody for further investigation, the report added.
