BJP set to uproot 24-year-old Naveen Patnaik rule in Odisha
Bhubaneswar/IBNS: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to form a government for the first time in Odisha putting an end to the Naveen Patnaik regime running for the last 24 years.
The BJP is leading in 80 seats, 6 more than the majority mark.
The BJD is placed at the second with 49 leads while Congress is at 14.
Celebrations broke out at the BJP state headquarters as the saffron camp, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, carried out a spirited campaign against the BJD.
Patnaik, who became the Chief Minister for the first term in 2000, is the second longest serving CM of the country after Pawan Kumar Chamling.
Chamling remained the Chief Minister of Sikkim from 1994 to 2019.
