'Even if I win 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh...': Akhilesh Yadav voices his trust issue with EVM

New Delhi/IBNS: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav reiterated his lack of faith in the Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs during the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Speaking in the lower house of Parliament, Akhilesh said, "When the Model Code of Conduct was imposed, the Election Commission favoured some people. I don't want to get into details. But questions have been raised at the institution somewhere. If questions are raised, then it is due to the government. Our democracy will be healthy and robust if the institution becomes unbiased."

"I didn't trust EVM earlier, I do not trust them even now and won't trust even if I win all 80 seats (in Uttar Pradesh)... The EVM issue is not done and dusted. We will fight till EVMs are removed," the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, who won from Kannauj, added.

Akhilesh's words were supported by Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who was sitting near him.

Despite pointing fingers at the EVMs repeatedly, the INDIA alliance comprising SP and Congress have managed to crush the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh in the Lok Sabha polls.

The INDIA alliance won 43 seats (SP 37 and Congress 6) while the BJP could bag only 33.

Will of Lord Ram: Akhilesh Yadav jabs BJP over Faizabad defeat

Jabbing the BJP over its Lok Sabha poll defeat in Uttar Pradesh's Faizabad, Akhilesh on Tuesday called the INDIA alliance's victory "the will of Lord Ram".

"The victory of Ayodhya is the democratic victory of the mature voters' understanding," said Akhilesh, and added, "It is the will of Lord Ram".

The result of the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat has assumed significance as the constituency locates Ayodhya's Ram Temple, which has remained the poll promise of the BJP.

The Ram Temple was inaugurated through a grand ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January.
