Mumbai: A 38-year-old engineer from Dombivli, near Mumbai, jumped from the Atal Setu sea bridge on Wednesday around 12:30 pm, media reports said

According to an India Today report, the incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed on the bridge.

The footage shows a black car stopping near the Nhava Sheva end of the Atal Setu, also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link. The driver exits the vehicle, walks towards the railing, and jumps off the bridge.

The man has been identified as a resident of Dombivli, according to the report.

Financial problems may have driven him to take the drastic step, it added.

The police have launched a search operation to locate the man’s body, deploying the Atal Setu, coastal police, and local fishermen.

This was the man’s second suicide attempt. He had tried to kill himself by drinking a floor cleaner liquid while working in Kuwait in 2023, news agency PTI reported citing police officials.

On March 20, a woman doctor had committed suicide by jumping from the Atal Setu.
