UP woman sexually assaulted inside ambulance, her husband thrown out without oxygen support
Lucknow: A woman was allegedly molested inside an ambulance in Uttar Pradesh while accompanying her husband to a hospital, media reports said.
The incident took place on August 30 in Siddharthnagar district, reported NDTV.
Following the assault, the ambulance workers allegedly removed the husband's oxygen support and threw both the woman and her husband out of the vehicle.
The woman's husband later died during treatment at Gorakhpur Medical College, the report said.
The woman had taken her husband, Harish, to Basti Medical College after he fell ill for several days.
As his condition worsened, doctors referred him to another hospital, but due to financial constraints, the woman decided to return home to seek treatment elsewhere.
During the ambulance ride, the driver forced the woman to sit in the front seat with him and his aide, and sexually harassed her.
When she resisted and tried to call for help, they cut off her husband's oxygen supply and threw both of them out of the ambulance, the report stated.
The woman also claimed that the driver stole her jewellery.
Her husband's condition worsened after the oxygen was cut off.
After describing the incident to her brother over the phone, he alerted the police.
The police took the injured man to the hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries, the report added.
The woman alleged that the police made no effort to arrest the ambulance driver or his aide. She has submitted a written complaint to the Ghazipur police station in Lucknow.
Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow North, Jitendra Dubey, confirmed that a woman from Siddharthnagar had filed a complaint in Lucknow’s Ghazipur police station regarding the alleged assault by the ambulance workers.
A case has been registered, and appropriate actions are being taken.
