New Delhi/IBNS: Former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Rajendra Gautam on Friday joined the Congress, amid the ongoing talks between the two parties for a seat-sharing deal in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections.

Gautam resigned from the AAP, which is spearheaded by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, this morning.

Joining the Congress, Gautam said, "There has been an increase in the frenzy over religion and caste in the last 10 years. Riots are taking place. Dalits, people from backward sections and minorities are being targeted.

"In this scenario, Rahul Gandhi's slogan for spreading love during Bharat Jodo Yatra has touched my heart."

Gautam, who is an MLA from Seemapuri assembly constituency, is a former Delhi minister for Water, Tourist, Culture, Arts and Languages and Gurdwara elections.

An advocate by profession, Gautam is a Dalit activist and a social worker.

Delhi will head to the next assembly elections in 2025.
