A gangrape attempt was made on a nurse at a private hospital in Bihar at a time when the country is boiling over the rape and murder of a medic in a state-run hospital in Kolkata last month.

According to reports, the nurse escaped the attempt by inflicting a cut on the private parts of one of the suspects with a blade.

Police told NDTV that one of the assaulters was a doctor.

According to reports, the nurse was finishing her work at the  RBS Health Care Centre in Gangapur under the Musrighararari police station limits on Wednesday when the doctor and two of his accomplices tried to gang-rape her.

The doctor was identified as Sanjay Kumar.

The doctor and his two associates were reportedly drunk.

After managing to escape from the hospital, the nurse called the police while she was hiding in the field.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar Pandey told NDTV that a team was rushed to the hospital and, after making sure that the nurse was safe, three people were arrested, including the doctor.

"The presence of mind and courage shown by the survivor is praiseworthy," he said.

The incident came to light at a time when Kolkata and the rest of the country is witnessing massive protests over the rape and murder of a doctor in RG Kar Medical College an Hospital.
