14-year-old minor girl raped by neighbour in Assam

Guwahati, July 24 (IBNS): A 14-year-old minor girl was raped by a youth, who happens to be her neighbour, in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district.

The incident happened at Digholipathar village near West Mayang under Pragjyotishpur police station in Kamrup (Metro) district.

The minor girl was raped by a 28-year-old youth named Santosh Roy on Monday.

According to the reports, the youth took the minor to his home and raped her.

The victim described the incident to her parents when she returned home.

Her parents then immediately lodged an FIR with police.

Following the complaint, police arrested the accused and on Tuesday he was produced at a local court in Guwahati.

The court has sent the accused person to judicial custody.

According to the Assam state home department data, over 4100 rape cases have been registered in different police stations in the state in last two and half years.
