New Delhi, Apr 24 (IBNS): At a time when situation in Libya is deteriorating, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said  India has appointed 17 coordinators in Tripoli in order to assist Indians leave the country.

"Tripoli - We have appointed 17 Coordinators to help Indians leaving Libya. Indian Embassy is helping them with Exit Visa even in cases where their visa has expired. Presently, the airport is operational. Please avail of this opportunity," Sushma Swaraj tweeted.

Tension heightened in Tripoli this month after Khalifa Haftar declared an attack on the Libyan capital  in orde r tocapture the region from the UN-backed Government of National Accord (GNA).

Sushma Swaraj earlier urged Indians living in Tripoli to leave the area.

"My earnest request to Indians in and around Tripoli is that they must leave while the Tripoli airport is functional. In case the airport is closed, you will be stranded and we will not be able to evacuate you.," Swaraj tweeted.

"We assure you that once the situation is normal, we will allow those in regular employment to return. So please obtain leave and move out," she said.
