Hyderabad, June 13 (IBNS) At least 21 people, including children and women, died after a van fell into a barrage near Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday morning, said officials.

According to reports, of the dead are seven children. The lone survivor is a kid, said Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who is monitoring the situation.

The van carrying pilgrims returning from Tirupati met with the tragedy in the East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh as it fell about about 30 feet down into the  Dowleswaram barrage in Gaodavari River.

The vehicle fell down after the driver apparently lost control.

CM Naidu tweeted: "Deeply saddened about tragic death of 21 people travelling in a van after it fell off Dowleswaram bridge. I'm monitoring the situation."

"The kid, a lone survivor, is undergoing treatment. Spoke to our Home Minister who visited the spot. We're providing all possible help (sic)," he said.
