New Delhi, May 27 (IBNS): Police on Monday arrested three suspects in the murder case of former village pradhan and close aide of Union minister Smriti Irani, Surendra Singh, at Amethi in Uttar Pradesh, media reports said.

Singh was shot dead in Jamo police limits late on Saturday night.

Police said the former Pradhan of Baraulia village was shot dead at his residence by motorcycle-borne criminals.

Singh was rushed to a hospital in Lucknow where he was declared brought dead.

Police have zeroed in on five suspects in the murder case of whom three have been arrested. Two are still absconding.

According to the initial level investigation, the murder was a result of local rivalry.

Seven people had been detained for interrogation. The police are now on the hunt for the two on the run.

Surendra had actively campaigned for Irani in the Lol Sabha polls in which she defeated Congress president Rahul Gandhi by over 55,000 votes.

The Baraulia village was adopted by former defence minister, the late Manohar Parikar, on the initiative of Irani.
