621 kg ganja seized in Siddipet of Telangana
Hyderabad, Mar 1 (UNI): Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad unit seized 621 kg of Ganja, worth more than Rs 93 lakh, at the district headquarters of Siddipet in Telangana.
Based on specific intelligence that narcotic drugs were being illegally transported, officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Hyderabad Zonal Unit, launched an operation during the early hours on Thursday and intercepted a lorry at Siddipet town.
A sedan which was escorting the lorry was also intercepted. The lorry was found to be carrying coal. However, upon thorough examination of the lorry it was found that polythene bags containing 621.3 kg of ganja, were concealed under the coal.
The contraband had been sourced from the Visakhapatnum Agency area and was being taken to Tandur in Vikarabad district).
As cannabis is a narcotic drug covered under the NDPS Act, the contraband was seized under the provisions of NDPS Act, 1985.
The value of the seized ganja in the grey market would be around Rs 93,I9,500.
The officers also seized the lorry and the sedan car which was escorting the lorry.
Three persons have been arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act 1985.
Further investigation is in progress, a DRI statement here said on Friday.
