80 per cent villagers of Hindu-Bengali dominated Pub Malaybari excluded from Assam NRC

Guwahati, Sept 2 (IBNS): More than 80 per cent  resident of Pub Malaybari – a revenue village in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district, are now spending sleepless nighst after their names were missing in the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) that was published on Aug 31, leaving out more than 19 lakh people across the state.

Around 2000 people are living in the village under Sonapur revenue circle – around 75-km from Guwahati, capital city of Assam.

They had applied for including their names in the NRC four years back.

But more than 80 per cent people of the village dominated by Hindu Bengali people were not listed in the final NRC list.

Locals said that, only 400-500 people names figured in the final list.

25-year-old Biswajit Sarkar and his family members were also not listed in the final NRC.

“More than 2000 people of our village had applied for the inclusion of their names in the NRC. But only 400-500 names have been listed. We had submitted tBohe rder security and refugee card etc documents,”  Biswajit said.

“Our village's name is Pub Malaybari. All residents of ward no 5, 4 and 7 have not figured in the final NRC. Our documents were not verified,” one Shyamal Sarkar said.
