Bengaluru, June 4 (IBNS): Actor and politician Kamal Haasan met Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy in Bengaluru on Monday and discussed the issue of sharing of the Cauvery water, The Hindu reported.

Kumaraswamy told journalists that they talked about a speedy solution of the vexed problem and maintaining a harmonious relationship between the two states keeping in mind the interests of farmers in both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

When asked if he was willing to hold talks with Tamil Nadu on Cauvery, he said “if the Tamil Nadu government is ready, I am willing.”

Haasan said he came as a representative of Tamil Nadu people and not as an actor or a political leader. “I am ready to be the bridge between the two States. We need water for kuruvai crop.  Kumaraswamy has responded positively.”

On the legal route, he said courts should be the last resort.

“What is important is that people of both States come together. The way forward will be found by people with the mindset to go forward. I am a new party, a child. We are here not to talk about movies,” he said.
