Adulterated milk powder manufacturing unit busted in Kolkata, one held
Kolkata, Aug 30 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, Kolkata Police's Enforcement Branch (EB) on Thursday morning unearthed an adulterated milk powder production unit-cum-warehouse in central Kolkata's Burrabazar area and arrested one person in connection with the case, officials said.
According to reports, a special team of city police's enforcement branch raided the factory, which was located on the fourth floor of a building near congested Netaji Subhas Road area under Burrabazar Police Station limits, and seized a several products, including 500 kgs of adulterated milk powder, 50 kgs of arrowroot and 40 kgs of powdered sugar, with a market value of approximately 11 lakh rupees from the premise.
Police also nabbed one Souvik Kundu, owner of the factory-cum-godown, during the search operation.
"Mixing some original milk powder with arrowroot, powdered sugar and few other chemicals, adulterated milk powder were being produced in the factory which was raided and sealed today," an EB official told IBNS.
"After being manufactured, the adulterated milk powder was packed in the packets of popular milk powder brands and those were sent to the open market," the officer said.
The arrested person was produced in a local court in Kolkata later on Thursday and he was remanded to police custody.
"We are interrogating the man to identify others involved in the racket," the officer added.
