Akhilesh Yadav  hints at 'seat adjustment' in 2022 UP Assembly polls

Lucknow/UNI: Announcing that Samajwadi Party will not contest the Assembly polls in Bihar and support Congress in Madhya Pradesh, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday categorically said that in 2022 Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh, there will be no alliance, instead there could be some 'seat adjustments' with like-minded parties.

''In the 2022 Assembly polls in UP, the party will not have any pre-poll alliance, as was the case in the past elections, but will have some seat adjustments with like-minded parties," said the former chief minister, adding that it was too early to say anything.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Yadav said SP will not contest the Assembly polls in Bihar later this year, but will support any party or alliance, which will defeat BJP.

He also said that in Madhya Pradesh, the lone party legislator will support the Kamal Nath government in the Assembly.

Reiterating his demand for a caste-based census, the SP president said that by not doing such a thing, the BJP government was ditching the Dalits and backwards.
''Everyone will be concerned about the future of their children, if there is no caste-based census," he said.

The former UP CM also slammed the Yogi Adityanath government over putting up hoardings of the anti-CAA protesters.

''Even courts have said that it is illegal, but this government is acting like a dictator," he said, raising question that it surprised everyone, when the Chief Minister himself withdrew all the cases filed against him in the past.

He even asked why Union Home Minister Amit Shah had blamed UP for the Delhi riots. ''I think Mr Shah is annoyed with Mr Yogi," he quipped.

Yadav also said that UP government is not prepared to deal with cases of Novel Coronavirus and the state government was taking the issue very lightly.
Calling the party cadre to jump into the agitation and other programmes of the party in a run for the 2022 Assembly polls in the state, he said now, there would be 'bicycle' everywhere.

Meanwhile, several senior Bahujan Samaj Party leaders, including former MPs and Legislators from Azamgarh and Bundelkhand region, joined the party.
