All assistance being provided to Indians in cruise ship quarantined off the Japanese coast: S Jaishankar

New Delhi/IBNS: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday said the Indian mission in Tokyo is constantly providing all assistance to the crew of the ship quarantined off the coast of Japan amid fears of coronavirus infection.

Meanwhile, two crew members of the ship have been tested positive for coronavirus infection.

"2 Indian crew members have tested positive for Coronavirus. Will keep you updated," Mr Jaishankar said in a tweet.

"Our Embassy @IndianEmbTokyo is in constant touch with the crew and passengers of Diamond Princess off Yokohama, Japan, rendering all necessary support & assistance. Passengers & crew are currently quarantined by Japanese authorities," he said.

On Feb 3, the ship was quarantined with almost 3,700 passengers and crew members aboard.

This happened after a passenger carrying the virus had deboarded the ship last month in Hong Kong, the embassy said in a statement.

The cruise ship named Diamond Princess is carrying 138 Indians onboard.

A total of 174 people on board have been infected with the virus, the embassy noted.
