Allahabad HC acquits Nupur and Rajesh Talwar in Aarushi murder case, says no chain of evidence to prove guilt
Aarushi's grandparents have expressed relief at the decision, NDTV reported.
The parents, who were found guilty of murder by a Ghaziabad special CBI court, were in prison since 2013, serving life imprisonment.
They had pleaded not guilty and appealed in the Allahabad High Court against the verdict of the CBI court.
On Thursday, the Allahabad High Court bench said that the Nupur and Rajesh Talwar cannot be convicted based on the basis of suspicion and must get the benefit of doubt, media reported.
The judges said that there was no chain of evidence.
Aarushi was found murdered at her residence on May 16, 2008, which led to the suspicion that domestic help Hemraj had killed her.
However, a day after Aarushi;s murder, Hemraj was found dead in the terrace.
In 2009, the CBI had handed over the murder case to a new team and suggested a closure of it.
The CBI has not yet said anything on the latest decision of the Allahabad High Court and if it will appeal against the decision.
