Amit Shah to meet Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai tomorrow

New Delhi/Mumbai, Jun 5 (IBNS): At a time when the two parties are experiencing a bitter taste of the alliance, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Amit Shah will meet Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai on Wednesday, media reports said.

The meeting is a part of the "Sampark for Samrthan" campaign which has been launched by the BJP to inform people about the achievements of Narendra Modi government at the Centre in four years.

The meeting will occur days after the two parties, despite being in an alliance, fought against each other in recently concluded by-polls in Maharashtra's Palghar parliamentary constituency.

However, the BJP managed to win the Lok Sabha seat, upsetting the Shiv Sena.

The meeting has assumed significance as the BJP, after a series of by-poll defeats, went below the magic figure of 272 in Lok Sabha.

On the other hand, the Shiv Sena has already announced that it will go solo in 2019 General Elections.

Even after the defeat in Palghar, Thackeray reiterated his party's stand to contest the next Lok Sabha elections alone.

The Shiv Sena chief has been quoted by The Indian Express as saying, "Though the Sena has lost the Palghar bypoll, I refuse to accept defeat,” he told media after the results were declared. “The party would contest all future elections solo."

In a party mouthpiece Saamana on Sunday, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut said his party is the biggest political rival of the BJP.

Talks are also going on about a possible united Opposition at the national level to defeat the BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Opposition had already flaunted a united face in the swearing-in ceremony of Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Kumaraswamy as the Karnataka Chief Minister.
