Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu fasts on birthday in Amaravati over special status issue

| @indiablooms | Apr 20, 2018, at 04:07 pm

Amaravati, Apr 20 (IBNS): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu began his day-long hunger strike on Friday in state capital Amaravati on his birthday, as a protest against the central government, which denied a special status to the southern state, media reports said.

Naidu will continue his fast till 7 pm.

He is joined by several other ministers and sitting MLAs.

He began his fast after paying tribute to Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was the principal framer of the Indian constitution.

Naidu's Telegu Desam party (TDP) has been in conflict with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government for sometime now over the special status issue.

Following the Union budget 2018, the TDP vented anger against the Centre for not granting a special status to Andhra Pradesh.

According to the instructions given by Naidu, the TDP had both withdrawn its ministers and support from the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which runs the central government.

Naidu has even said his party will play a role in the running of the central government in the coming days.
