Are Rajasthan Speaker's disqualification notices to Congress MLAs valid? SC to resume hearing

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court will on Monday resume hearing on the pleas that challenge Rajasthan Assembly Speaker CP Joshi's constitutional validity in serving disqualification notices to 19 rebel MLAs of the ruling party Congress.

The disqualification notices were served to Congress heavyweight Sachin Pilot and his 18 loyalists for skipping party's meetings.

Last week, the top court had put a stay on the disqualification of the rebel lawmakers till Monday.

The Rajasthan High Court, which was initially hearing the pleas of the rebel MLAs who have challenged the Speaker's notices, on Saturday ordered Joshi to maintain status quo, meaning the 19 lawmakers can't be disqualified for now.

Joshi was the one who had moved the Supreme Court earlier, seeking a stay on the legal proceedings in the high court.

The Congress plunged into a political crisis, which is deepening with every passing day, more than a couple of weeks ago when Pilot went to Delhi revolting against Gehlot, after being allegedly sidelined in his own party.

Pilot was sacked as the Deputy Chief Minister and party's state unit chief after he had skipped two meetings of MLAs chaired by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Meanwhile, Gehlot, who claims to have the strength in the assembly, has urged Governor Kalraj Mishra to open the assembly to which the latter disapproved.

After Mishra had asked the reasons for holding an assembly session, Gehlot said he wanted a discussion over Novel Coronavirus to take place.
